Community Advocacy & Future Development

Years before the Convoy District Partnership nonprofit was started, countless founders have been building partnerships and working directly within the community to listen and advocate for the growing needs of its stakeholders. The Convoy District Partnership nonprofit continues to advocate through countless City and County initiatives and represent the interest of the neighborhood as a whole.

Convoy Nights

Convoy Nights is a concept created by Special Events Director Lauren Garces. Convoy Nights are aimed to be evening celebrations throughout the year promoting the neighborhood’s diverse businesses, cultures, artists, and community groups. They remind us of the beautiful ways that exploring food and celebrating with friends and family can bring us together. Convoy Nights celebrations have included a Convoy Bar Crawl, A Holiday Gathering, and the neighborhood’s first-ever Live Mural Reveal!

The inaugural and largest annual Convoy Nights celebration happened in December 2018, titled “A Holiday Gathering!” The event features holiday lantern installations,  pop-up performances in the different Convoy District plazas, giveaways, and a special tree lighting ceremony to kick off the holidays. It encourages attendees to celebrate their holiday celebrations of December with friends and family at the numerous establishments in Convoy District.

San Diego Night Market

The San Diego Night Market is an outdoor, evening market featuring Asian-inspired food held in promotion of the Convoy District – an emerging cultural, economic, and innovation hub in central San Diego. In 2013, the first San Diego Night Market was launched in the Zion Market corner parking lot with an expectation of 2,000 people.

The inaugural night market saw nearly 20,000 people in attendance and in the past 4 years of the annual event, it has continued to attract an average of 15,000 attendees every time. Success has largely been due to social media engagement and community word-of-mouth; A consistent demand is created and buying power support comes from many Pan-Asian Communities.

The San Diego Night Market is recognized as the first and largest night market introduced to San Diego. It has lead to the inspiration behind numerous night markets across San Diego by other communities.
